  • Journey to the West Coast aboard the TranzAlpine train and ride through native bush in the foothills of the Southern Alps.

  • 11 days riding on some of the best cycle trails in New Zealand. 
  • 12 nights at charming B&B, lodge and hotel accommodation. All rooms have en suite bathrooms except the 1st night of the A2O. 
  • Your choice of a high performance e-bike or mountain bike. Our ebikes have the latest technology and design and are available at no extra cost.
  • Tranzalpine train trip, Helicopter flight over Tasman river, Pancake Rocks tour, Haast river Jet Boat Safari, Hokitika Gorge, West Coast Treetops Walkway, ShantyTown, Omarama Hot Tubs, Kurow Wine Tasting - all included. 
  • Meals included: 
  1. Day 1: lunch and dinner
  2. Day 2-6: breakfast, lunch and dinner
  3. Day 7: no meals included  
  4. Day 8-12: breakfast, lunch and dinner
  5. Day 13: breakfast and lunch
  • Meals are at top local restaurants and cafes. Picnics are made with high quality ingredients and fresh local produce.  We cater to all dietary requirements. 
  • Our expert tour guides provide insight and background on your journey and show you how to use all equipment. 
  • Snacks provided – fresh fruit, nuts, biscuits and sweets/lollies. Nobody ever goes hungry on our tours!
  • Drinks breaks on the trail – selection of teas, plunger coffee, juice, soft drinks and water. 

Excluded:

  • Any drinks or coffees in restaurants or cafés throughout the tour.
  • Any meals not included above. 
  • We do not include any meals or activities on Day 7. This is a day off from the tour for you to relax and enjoy Queenstown.  


The Great Southern Circuit Tour Itinerary

  • We recommend you arrive in Christchurch 1-2 days before the tour starts.  
  • Day 1 – Take the TranzAlpine Train over  the Southern Alps to reach the West Coast - one of the great train rides of the world! Enjoy a tour of the Punakaiki Pancake Rocks and walk the Truman's Track in Paparoa National Park. Dinner at a fabulous restaurant in Greymouth. 
  • Day 2 - After an introduction to the bikes, you will ride the first leg of the West Coast Wilderness cycle trail from Greymouth to Kumara, stoping for lunch and a visit to the amazing ShantyTown where you can experience life for the early pioneers during the Gold Rush.  
  • Day 3 – Follow the cycle trail through native bush up into the foothills of the Southern Alps, then descend into the Arahura valley for a fabulous picnic lunch. Continue over another hill to finish near the magnificent Lake Kaniere. 
  • Day 4 – Visit the magnificent Hokitia Gorge, then return to visit Hokitika for lunch. Stop for a stroll through the forest canopy at the West Coast Treetops Walkway, then finish the bike trail in Ross and stay at unique beach-front accommodation, watching the sun set into the Tasman Sea.
  • Day 5 – We take a beautiful drive down the coast today stopping glacier country. After a quick look at the Franz Josef Glacier, enjoy a short ride beside the Waiho river before lunch. Continuing our journey, we stay in the remote outpost of Haast. 
  • Day 6 – Start the day with a spectacular jet boat up the Haast River before driving up and over the mountains. Back on your bikes for a fabulous ride between Lake Hawea and Wanaka. We then drop you at your Queenstown accommodation in time for dinner. 
  • Day 7 – Today you take a break from the tour. No meals or activities are included - you are free to relax and enjoy the hotel pool and sauna or head out and explore Queenstown.  
  • Day 8 – Back to business for the 2nd half of the adventure! We pick you up bright and early for the drive up to Mt Cook/Aoraki National Park. After a short ride to airfield you will take a short helicopter flight across the Tasman River. Another 2 hours of cycling on the far side brings you to our accommodation, set in a stunning location.
  • Day 9 – The cycle trail follows the lake to reach our picnic with stunning views of the mountains. Cross tussock-covered plains to reach Twizel then continue beside the canals. 
  • Day 10 – Ride around Lake Ohau in the morning, then up and over a fairly big hill to reach a historic woolshed for lunch. Enjoy a soak in outdoor hot tubs before dinner. 
  • Day 11 – Today is a real highlight as the landscape changes from alpine high country to a braided river valley. Pass 3 huge lakes learning the history of the hydro power stations. Enjoy a wine tasting, followed by dinner at a fabulous lodge. 
  • Day 12 – Follow the river as it crosses 3 small creeks. Then after morning tea, we visit Elephant Rocks before your first glimpse of the Pacific Ocean. Ride through Raki's tunnel and cross a patchwork quilt of crops and farmland to reach your luxury accommodation.
  • Day 13 – Enjoy the last few kilometres of pasture and botanic gardens to reach the Pacific Ocean in Oamaru. Celebrate with fantastic pizzas at a local brewery. Then you can choose to take a bus back to Christchurch (included) or return in tour van to Queenstown.

Options

  • Day 7 in Queenstown is the mid-point of the tour. We do not plan any activities or meals for you that day. This is your opportunity to take some time out from the tour and explore Queenstown your own way. Meals and activities are at your own expense but your accommodation in Queenstown is included in the price of your tour. 
  • Alternative drop-off points can be arranged upon request – just let us know your plans and we will see what we can do.
  • In Franz Josef Glacier, it may be possible to book a scenic helicopter flight over the glaciers and Aoraki Mt Cook, subjec to weather conditions. This is not included in the tour. Please enquire for further details.
